Perfect parts in harmonious accord, the Big Band Red blend is a winemaking triumph built on the back of necessity and ingenuity. When the fantastic Mataro fruit from Doctor Matt’s Willunga vineyard came in short of the requested tonne, I moved quickly to balance the difference in the fermenter bin by balanced buckets of just picked gorgeous Grenache from Mark Briggs dry grown vineyard and the grapes enjoyed this free-loving co-fermentation for the ensuing two weeks. This has resulted in a wine with the rich, red fruited structure of the Mataro seamlessly combined with the softer, sensual elements and pretty perfume of the Grenache. It will blow you away!
